A 4 - 5 hour tattoo is $275 p/h plus GST.
For 6 or more hours the base rate will be $250 per hour.
Minimum is $400 regardless of the time. Econsults are free; face-to-face consultations are $100 (unless the client has already booked via econsult) which is deducted from the cost of the tattoo along with the deposit.
- Having seen your web page, and looking through the galleries, I came across an arm band tattoo. Could you tell me the cost for a copy of the design?
Out of respect to our clients, the majority of whom commission one-of-a-kind artwork, we do not sell copies of our designs. - Although I'm sure it varies from tattoo to tattoo, can I get an approximate price range for Daemon's tattoos?
The cost of the tattoo varies according to how much research and drawing the artist has to do, the placement on the body, detail, coverage and density and the willingness and ability of the client to sit still for long periods without fidgeting or the need to take frequent breaks. The artist will provide a rough time estimate during the consultation appointment. The artist can also work within a budget.
Booking appointments/consultations
- How do I go about booking an appointment?
Please see our Appointments section for more information. - If I sent a picture of my tattoo and a summary of myself would Daemon be able to design a couple of pictures and refer me to an artist in Edmonton?
Daemon has done custom designs for films and for this he charges a half day (4 hr or less) or full day rate (8 hr or less) for his design work. However, Daemon prefers not to design a custom tattoo for another artist to execute, so the answer is no. We do, however, have a set of flash designs that Daemon created for a convention in Berlin in 2000. You may purchase these designs and draw inspiration from there. To inquire about purchasing a set, please give us a call during our regular business hours.- What if I don't live in the area, but want to set up an appointment?
Send in your econsult to: bodyart@urbanprimitive.com. You can expect an answer within a few days. Please include your phone number in your e-mail. Once we have received your econsult and attachments and discussed them with you via email or phone, you can arrange for a deposit to set up your appointment. Please try to book your appointment as far in advance as is possible if you know you are only going to be in town on a certain date, or else it might not be possible to accommodate you at that time.- How far in advance do I have to book?
The waiting time varies due to many factors, including researching and drawing your tattoo design and how many people have booked appointments prior to you. On average, Daemon books a minimum of 4-6 months in advance in the fall/winter and 4-6 months in advance in the spring/summer. We do have a cancellation list. To book an appointment with Daemon, we recommend that you complete your econsult and wait for his reply.- Can I book the consultation and tattoo on the same day?
We prefer to do consultations and tattoos separately: this provides both client and artist time to discuss and approve all aspects of your tattoo experience. Under special circumstances, such as accommodating out-of-town clients or if the tattoo is done freehand (i.e. little or no pre-drawing), the artist can choose to do the consultation and tattoo on the same day provided that the client has confirmed their intent with a deposit. The client must receive express written (i.e. email) approval of the artist to book both on the same day. As with all deposits, please provide your credit card number, expiry date and a statement authorizing the deposit amount or book online.- What if I have to cancel my appointment?
We require a 72 hour written cancellation via email to bodyart@urbanprimitive.com. If you do not have access to email, you may leave a voice mail message which is also subject to a 72 hour cancellation notice.- How can I pay my deposit?
Deposits may be cash, Interac, Visa or MasterCard, money order or by Interac Email Money Transfer. If you can do your banking online, you should be able to do this. You will have to add Urban Primitive to your Recipient List (or whatever your bank calls it). Please be sure to use bodyart@urbanprimitive.com as the Recipient Email Address. An email will be sent to the us notifying us of the incoming transfer. To collect the money, we must correctly answer the Security Question. Make sure the security question you choose is one we will actually be able to answer; If we can't answer it, we can't accept your deposit, and cannot guarantee your appointment time will be held.
Alternatively, you may leave a message on our confidential voice mail (416)-966-9155 or, as a last option, email the first eight numbers in the first message and the final numbers with the expiry date in a second message t bodyart@urbanprimitive.com.
Deposits are non-refundable.
- What sort of reference material do I need to bring with me to my consultation?
The more focused and specific the information you supply, the easier it is for our artists to help you create the tattoo of your dreams. Different materials include books and print media, photographs, jpegs, rough sketches, physical objects. Please bring your references, ideas, sketches along with you at the time of the consultation. If at all possible, try to bring high-quality copies of these things instead of originals, as it may be necessary to leave them here for drawing purposes. The more research you do and references that you provide will result in a lower cost to you because the artists are then free to focus their time on actual drawing.- Is it possible for me to see my design before I come in for my tattoo appointment?
Generally design outlines are scanned and emailed within one week of the tattoo appointment.- What if I want to make changes to my design?
In most cases, small changes (colour, small details changed or added) can be done at the time of the actual appointment and require no additional fee. If, however, you have changed your whole tattoo concept, that will require another consultation and a charge for drawing time. - What if I don't live in the area, but want to set up an appointment?
Miscellaneous
- I was looking at your website and I saw that you had 18 years of age as the age required to be tattooed at your studio. I was wondering if this was the legal age for all of
Canada or just the age which you have chosen?
This is the age that we have chosen as the legal age to get a tattoo without parental consent. We encourage under-age clients to invite their parent/s to be present as part of their tattoo experience. - I am writing to you because I want a few of your business cards.
If you wish to collect our business cards, you must mail us a self-addressed envelope and include pre-paid postage return slip (please no stamps unless mailed in Canada). Mail to 455 Tower Street North, Fergus, Ontario, Canada N1M 2N8.
Research
- I have been trying to find a symbol for FREEDOM. Any suggestions where to find detailed pictures?
You have a number of options here: you may look for a Chinese (or any other) character that signifies freedom; you may choose an image such as an eagle, hummingbird, dragonfly, etc. that to you symbolizes freedom or, focus your intent so that, regardless of what you literally or symbolically choose, the actual experience of creating and getting a tattoo means freedom to you. - I am writing to request permission to use one of the jpg's on your website in the master's thesis I am currently preparing. I would be honoured and pleased if I could
reproduce your 'Daemonic'-style picture in my thesis, which shall hopefully be completed by the end of this August.
Thank you for your written request which includes details of your thesis. Daemon is willing to grant permission to use [ref.jpg] from his work, subject to the following:
- Cite proper credit to Daemon Rowanchilde including our website URL in your references.
- A mention addressed to Daemon Rowanchilde in your acknowledgements.
- Mail or email us a copy of your thesis: 455 Tower Street North, Fergus, Ontario, Canada N1M 2N8
- I had read u designed the tattoos for Nightcrawler in X-Men 2. Do the
symbols on Nightcrawler really stand for saints or are they a made up design? Ff they stand for
actual saints, where did you find these symbols or drawings at?
The majority of the symbols are Angelic sigils (or signatures) based on the Enochian Tablet and the Key of Solomon. Others are ancient alchemical symbols. We have old reference books in our archive, but I am confident you will find info online.
Recommendations
- I wanted to know if you had an affiliated studio (insert city here) or a recommended one.
We have previously recommended and referred clients to Anil Gupta of Inkline in NYC, Erik Reime of Kunsten paa Kroppen in Denmark, Leah Miller of Leah Miller Tattoos in Toronto, Tsunami of Halo Body Art in Toronto and Tom Ptolomey of Silver Needles in Southend, U.K., all close personal friends and colleagues. Since we have little contact with any other tattoo artists, we do not feel comfortable making other recommendations. To find an artist in your area, logon to www.tattoos.com or any other online tattoo magazines and ask for their referrals. - Hi I am a huge fan of Mr. Rowanchilde's Art. I have been working on my tattoo for a year now but had no luck finding anybody of your caliber, so I was wondering if there
is anybody in my area that you would recommend.
Generally, we cannot give recommendations of artists in other cities when we don't know them, their work or the cleanliness of their studios well enough. - Is it possible that you will come sometime in the next year to Europe - to a Tattoo Convention or something like this? Because your kind of drawing is exactly
what I want. Is there a possibility? If not, what can I do, is there a tattoo artist in Europe that has the same style?
To date no other tattoo artist has been able to master Daemon's energy wave style. Daemon works energetically when he creates tattoos and this energy is reflected in the actual tattoo. More than a few clients have commented on the energetic vitality of his tattoos. We have had clients come in to cover up a poorly executed attempt to copy Daemon's style. It is far more cost effective to save your money for an original piece of art by the artist of your choice than to bear the cost and stress of a undergoing a cover up. Please note that over 40 per cent of Daemon's clientele comes from the United States and Europe.
Scars/Acne/Vitiligo
- I was wondering about the issue of tattooing over scars....I have one on my arm that I would like to make less obvious. Is this a generally practiced technique?
is there an ideal waiting-healing time for the skin to heal prior to getting the tattoo. As scars tend to become less obvious with time and are there any web
resources perhaps depicting work of this kind.
In our experience, the best tattooing technique to cover scars (especially raised scars) is the stippling effect that Daemon does with his energy wave design work. With this techniques there is less trauma to the tissue (scar tissue is more delicate than unbroken skin) as the technique gently breaks down raised scar tissue and allows it to heal flatter and smoother. Healing is often remarkably fast and easy with this method. - I am covered with vitiligo on my body and have been since I was a kid. I'm fair skinned so it's not bad in the winter and now with the sunless tanning the summers
a bit better as well. My question is can you tattoo freckles on my hands and feet to tone the vitiligo (white spots) down
Yes it is possible. As far as cosmetic tattooing, Daemon has created eyebrows, eyeliner and lipliner for clients. For specialized work such as vitiligo, however, we recommend that you seek out a cosmetic tattooing specialist. At this time, we cannot recommend anyone in particular. Contact your nearest College of Cosmetic Surgeons for a recommendation.
Coverups
- I got a tattoo in 1996 when I was 16. The tattoo is about 3cm by 3cm, the colour is very faded, the black outline is added and in some places gone. My question is what if
anything would cover it up the best and do you do cover up's and how successful are they.
It is impossible to answer your questions without seeing the tattoo. Please book a consultation with Daemon (416 966 9155) to discuss your options. - If I took a digital picture of my tattoo and sent the picture and some ideas what I am looking for in the way of a coverup could you draw up a few designs? I would be
willing to pay for your time.
It would be far better if you came in for a consultation. Coverups more often than not, require to be modified freehand, so creating a stencil really won't work in most cases.
Aftercare
- How do I keep my tattoo looking good in the long run?
Taking care of your new tattoo during the first few weeks is vital, as is the care you take once it is fully healed. This mostly entails using common sense. If you are going to be in the sun or on a tanning bed, even for a short amount of time, you should use a sunblock of at least 30-50 SPF to protect the tattoo, every time. Spread a thick layer of Vaseline on your tattoo before swimming in chlorinated pools. Other than that, wear proper protective gear or clothing if you are engaging in activities where the skin could get hurt or scraped. Also a healthy skin care regimen, including healthy diet, regular detoxifying sweats (sauna or steam), gentle exfoliation and moisturizing lotions can make a huge difference in keeping your tattoo looking bright. An ounce of prevention can keep your tattoo looking fantastic for a lifetime.
Long Distance Clients
- Can someone please let me know how other out of town customers have gotten tattoos by Daemon?
Our out of town clients drive directly to Fergus or fly into Pearson airport and then take a shuttle (redcarservice.com) to our retreat in Fergus where they stay the night before their tattoo appointment. Clients can also fly into Kitchener Waterloo airport or Hamilton airport and take the shuttle from there. - I would like to book a consultation with Daemon Rowanchilde. Because I live in San Diego, I would prefer to do it by e-mail, if possible, Please let me know your availability
and how the consultation process works. Thank you very much.
Over 40% of Daemon's clients come from the U.S. and overseas. Long distance email consultations work very well. Clients provide a detailed description of what they want and often include jpeg references and digital images of their preferred body location. The email is then presented to Daemon or Leah and they provide feedback and comments which are then emailed. Once the person has decided that they want to go ahead with the tattoo (pre-design), then they leave a deposit via credit card or money order and we book the appointment. The trip is well worth added expense and still affordable. And Fergus is a great town to visit especially in the summer. We require that you leave a deposit (and preferably book your actual tattoo appointment) before Daemon begins working on a design for you. Deposits are $500 CAN for each full day booked.
