Alex and I love our tattoos so much. So far everyone we have shown are blown away….even the ones that don’t believe in them. I have a friend who reluctantly admitted last night that she thought mine was feminine and classy……if you knew her, you’d realize what a revelation that is. Thank you again for your generosity. Daemon you are truly talented. See you soon.

Daemon and Raven, We have been back in AZ for a while now and the art has healed up wonderfully. I am amazed every time I look at the new piece. It is exactly what I was looking for. Liz is equally impressed at hers as well. Daemon’s ability to take an idea and expand it to create art is awe inspiring. Thanks a lot for the wonderful hospitality, especially with the kids. You guys really were very patient and very welcoming. Best blueberry pancakes I’ve ever had. I felt bad leaving so quickly after we were done. I would have liked to stay and hang with Daemon some more. Next time I think we will plan to stay an extra day or so, now that the boys have seen the falls. All and all it was another wonderful experience. Make sure you get in touch if you make it to AZ. We will go and look at Earth Ships with you ;-) Thanks again, Chris and Liz

this letter is well overdue... ...it's bemusing the path one takes when life unfolds When I reflect upon the many hours spent at Daemon and Raven's retreat, I quickly realize that it is much more than a studio. It is a place where you go to renew and reinvigorate your spirit... After initial counsel, I will admit that it always seems that Daemon and I have a divergence with regards to the body art drafted. Whether it is my desire to preconceive the end result, my innate hehavior to critique, or both, he has taught me that a 'tattoo' is about evolution. To his credit by accomodating, and exchanging thought and abstraction, we successfully achieved a flow that was germinal to the final tapestries that he emboridered on my skin... I applaud his talent to coalesce Nightcrawler-like motifs into angel wings and siren tail, to juxtapose a DNA strand with a corporeal silhouette, to fancy a dolphin, and to accentuate these foreground images with Daemonic energy-waves. Somehow, he cleverly portrayed a theme both symbolic and steeped in mythos... I suspect the aforementioned simulacrum was the catalyst for the most recent piece that I commissioned, "the Resurrection of Baltar" ;-) What continues to astound me is the depth, the purpose, the passion, and the focus with which Daemon paints. My most recent portrait has aged, and still I'm speechless... ...I do believe it is an earnest representation of all these things: 1. Gauis, "person of earth" overcoming misfortune, or "one who rejoices" in the face of adversity 2. A parable and allegory for christian rebirth 3. An archetype for carrying one's cross, and releasing it 4. Scarring and healing can be vessels towards growth When artwork can convey different messages to different people, it is truly a masterpiece. With reverence, I would like to express gratitude to Daemon. Sincerely, Orazio P.S. You'll be glad to know that even my mom who is opposed to ink, encourages me to exhibit my tattoo with braggadocio... I will stop by someday to showcase the matured and vintage work...

Dear Daemon, I want to express how deeply grateful I am for your amazing part in the complex and intimate experience of receiving my tattoo. I am so appreciative of your artistic ability and way of being, as well as your respect for the process of changing one's body, changing my body, in a strangely profound way that continues to surprise and delight me. Thank you for your kindness, your emotional intelligence, your fine and attentive work and your warm company. I aim and hope to return for more. Dear Raven, You are amazing. With a lovely and natural grace you have things running smoothly and with unending hospitality. From the beginning peaceful entry into your home and the retreat to the last team effort to find directions to the lake in Guelph (sadly they weren't renting the kayaks for fear of a storm, but it was beautiful) I felt welcomed and taken care of in the most needed ways. You are a beautiful and strong central force that I felt fortunate to be around and appreciated so much being a recipient of your care. Please pass my thanks along to Tim for his kind, attentive help and to your amazing catering neighbor whose name I embarrassedly don't remember but whose blueberry pancakes, panini, and quiche were strikingly delicious. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. With warmest regard, Maggie

After combing through Daemon’s website and having my mind blown, I knew he was the only person on the planet to make visible something that was already energetically there: a delicate, intricate work of sacred body art to honour the birth of my daughter and my own rebirth as someone wanting to live life fearlessly. The experience itself was perfect in every way: the inspiring environment, the effortless design consultation, the state-of-the-art equipment, and the grounding of good conversation. I love my first tattoo – Daemon, thank you for such a gift! - Jenny St. Germain Durham, Ontario

Hi Raven. Just a quick note to let you know that I'm healing well and could not be more pleased with Daemon's work. He is not only an extraordinary artist but is, truly, a rare and beautiful person. In the present state of this culture, he is a gift. The unparalleled quality and skill of his work is matched only by the honesty and kindness of his spirit. Raven, I am endlessly grateful to you for your patience in our consultations and for the unique experience that we shared, one that I'm sure could only be fostered in the unique environment you (and yours) provide. "Thank you" doesn't seem to suffice, but with lack of better words, it will have to do. So, from the bottom of my heart: thank you.

Dear Daemon and Raven: I can’t thank you enough for your recent hospitality in January. My second journey to your oasis in Fergus for some much needed spiritual restoration was every bit a success as the first one. I now have 2 beautiful tattoos that I’m proud to own and love to show. My first trip in Jan 2008 was a difficult one on so many levels. Covering up the old tattoo was something I’d been dreaming of for so long but didn’t really think was possible. There was no sense in making things worse than they already were so I simply lived with it, and for 15 years I let it tarnish my self image, more than even I knew. Daemon couldn’t tell me what he was going to do to fix it, only that I would be happy when it was done. It was a struggle and a leap of faith for me to trust what he was saying but I’m so glad I did. The cover up is AMAZING and more beautiful than I thought was possible. A year later everyone who sees it is so complimentary of the piece. When we were finished I decided I had to come back the following year for some more work, this time an enhancement of another old tattoo, one that I wasn’t completely unhappy with but still had room for improvement. Little did I know how much room there was! I can’t believe the transformation of the horse, it’s absolutely gorgeous and so different from what was there before. Unlike my first trip I had some expectations of the end result this time and they were exceeded beyond belief. Thank you again for everything. Your warmth and hospitality and fabulous accommodations make a person feel welcome in your home, like they’re part of the family. Your atmosphere is so unlike a typical tattoo experience that it’s makes hard to describe the experience to other people. Meeting you both has truly been a gift for my soul. Sincerely, Jessica Slater from Waterdown

My dearest Daemon and Raven, Battling through cancer was the toughest journey I've ever had to make, but beating it was the most triumphant. I never thought that getting a tattoo to represent my journey could be so cathartic and spiritual. Daemon and Raven, you are both responsible for helping me over the last hurdle. You have given me closure and left me with the most beautiful, awe inspiring, envious piece of art on my body. I am so very thankful for the tranquility your environment provided, the amusement your conversation conjured, and the comfort your smiles gave to me. The memory of this priceless experience will forever be etched in my mind and on my skin. Thank you, I am 300% satisfied.

Hello Raven and Daemon, Thank you so much for the warm reception and hospitality. I am blown away with the tattoo, I had in mind what it would look like and the end piece is more than I expected. Everyone that has seen the tattoo so far is just in awe (BTW, I only take 10% on all the referrals!!! J) The actual tattoo process with you is one of a kind and one that I very much enjoyed. My two children Ronan and Zoe just love seeing their name in the tattoo on my arm, they were asking to see it every 15 mins! Ronan (age 5) said that he will be going to you when he is older!

The whole experience was so special and just chatting with you was also special. The area feels absolutely normal with no sensitivity or discomfort. I cannot wait for Aliyah to see it! Raven, thank you for all your patience with the back and forth via email. Your welcome and openess was also much appreciated and put me at ease right away. Thank you to your daughter for welcoming us as we came in and the dogs were a great addition to the whole experience as I had never seen a hairless dog before - beautiful and hairless! It was also special to meet your grandchildren - everything was so comforting. Take care both of you and all the very best and much peace and health. Warm hugs Zarina

When I decided to have a tattoo, I wanted it to be original, one-of-a-kind, feminine and ethereal and at the same time powerful, symbolic, and very spiritual. Not much to ask for, huh? I then began looking for the artist to do this. It literally took me weeks until I stumbled onto Daemons' site. With every click I knew I had found the artist who could pull it off. I wasn't wrong. What is that saying? Life is a ….. something rather. Well, life was just that. I had to postpone my date with the Rowanchildes. I had to find research material that just wouldn't be found. And amid all this, endure yet another personal loss. There were days when I really thought that this wouldn't happen for me. Until, finally, I arrived….on time…which is a big deal given my issues with punctuality. I was welcomed into the house as if I was a long lost friend. As I entered the Soul Garden, I could feel my own soul exhale with relief. It felt as if I entered into an oasis (with its own McDonalds and a Tim Hortons) amid the chaos. I glanced at the text book I brought with me and, I believe, that was the only time I did that. Life was good…if only I could see the artwork that will rest upon my lower back. I caught up with Daemon later on that evening and finally got to see the picture. It was beautiful and everything I wanted it to be. With excitement bubbling in the pit of my belly, I slept better then I had in weeks. The morning came, and so did breakfast. I couldn't wait to get started. As we entered the studio and talked about the whole art of transformation my eyes fell on the bones on the floor. Daemon said that it was the last non-transf….kidding! The bones were chewies for the puppies even though they were probably bigger in size then the dogs. But, back to the tattoo… After two days of work, a lot of wincing, hissing, biting my lip, holding my breath, panting, feeling like I've bruised my ass cheeks with all the squeeze-and-release momentum I had going while pulling on my hair...gently, I got the art piece on my skin. And it is breath-taking, figuratively and literally speaking. I have sent my friends a picture of it and their responses all began with the same thing: "Wow!", some followed that up with "What is it?", and others with "How do you open the picture?" One girl at work was so thrilled with the work, she almost pulled my pants down in the office to see it, and finally, it motivated her to…..buy a sticker tattoo. Baby steps, I suppose. My husband loved it and graciously volunteered to help as my personal nurse. All kidding aside, Thank you Daemon and Raven for your hospitality, for the Soul Garden, for the art, for everything. This piece is very symbolic and spiritual for me. I can't even imagine having anyone else do the work. Your talent, your chemistry, your energy, your warmth, and your lightness of being are inspirational on so many levels. Thank you both, so much. Namaste, Lana. P.S. tomorrow I'm making French Toast for breakfast. You will be in my thoughts. :)

So you know, the impingement in my arm did not return for two days and even then, not as severe as previously. That was indeed a bonus. Hi Raven and Daemon, Now that we are back and settled in Arizona, I thought I would send an email to thank you for the hospitality you showed us. The artwork, that now has become a permanent part of us, is absolutely stunning. We really enjoyed the whole experience. We were a little nervous about this, but were immediately put at ease by your friendliness. Daemon offered great conversation as well as very professional work, in a setting that can only be described as perfect. The wonderful fire, friendly dogs, and beautiful setting only helped to enhance the experience.

Getting my first tattoo was a serious matter; I wanted to commemorate a major spiritual emergence, and I searched for nearly two years for an artist with whom I felt a kinship. When I first saw Daemon's online portfolio, I felt an immediate connection. Themes of transformation vibrate through his work, and I saw an organic quality I'd not seen from other artists. It looked like the tattoos had 'always been there, and I especially liked the dark palette of much of his work the deep reds, purples, and blacks evoked subflesh structures pushing up through the skin, rather than being etched on top of it. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but working with Daemon was a profound experience that in many ways echoed the spiritual emergence I was trying to commemorate. Over two six-hour days, as the darkly bursting phoenix emerged across the right side of my back, I entered a deeply meditative state that traversed both pain and pleasure. I directed my awareness as completely as possible into the sensations of the needle while hooking into the continuous trance-inducing music playing in the background. At times I felt simultaneously out of my body and completely within it, drawn along a powerful internal journey by the needle. Powerful emotions arose and melted away. All of which sounds very serious, but both Daemon and Raven are cheery, funny, and loving hosts who provided much comfort and warmth in their amazing home. My only regrets are that I was sort of 'out of it' in between the sessions and that I couldn't stay longer to visit. I really can't imagine working with anyone else in the future. Also, after e-mailing a photo of the tattoo to some close friends, here are some responses: 'holy shit, it's amazing,' 'totally stunning,' and 'It looks so 'finished' - I mean it doesn't look like it was just done; it is like it belongs there.' Which are all true. Thank you, Daemon and Raven.

When I was 17, I got my first tattoo. A shop had opened up in downtown Brampton, I went in, picked a dragon off of the wall, and 45 minutes later it was on the back of my shoulder. On the way home, I totally regretted it. I didn’t know if it was because it was my first tattoo, or if it was the whole experience. I think the biggest thing was that as I was about halfway through getting it done, the artist had told me that he had done that exact tattoo about 6 times in the past week. I think that helped out in my regrets. As I got older I new that I wanted another tattoo, but I knew that I wanted one that nobody else in the world had. Then I heard about Urban Primitive. A friend of mine got a band done around his lower leg, and it blew my mind. I had never seen anything like it. As the years went on, I went with four different people (including my dad) to get ink from Daemon. That was it, now it was my turn. I made an appointment with Daemon for a consultation, and went down to cabbage town for the meeting. Being that I have less than zero artistic ability, it was hard for me to explain exactly what I wanted. I went in with a few samples of pieces that he had done, and basically just told him the size I wanted and said for him to do whatever he would like. A few months later I went in for my appointment and was pretty nervous because I didn’t want to be disappointed by another tattoo. Right from the start I knew it would be different, the studio was so relaxing and wasn’t at all like the typical tattoo shop. I was so relaxed. Daemon freehanded the artwork and I knew that I would end up with a great tattoo. Six hours later the piece was complete, and Daemon had left me speechless. I honestly didn’t know what to say, the piece came out exactly how I had it pictured in my mind. He incorporated all the details that I wanted and truly made it a tattoo that nobody else had. It was a great feeling to have such a beautiful piece of artwork on my body. I really feel like I was meant to be born with it. A few years past, and one day, like a punch in the face, I knew I had to phone Daemon and get some more work done. I went in for the consultation, told him the size, and told him to do whatever he wanted. What I wanted was for him to do work around my very first tattoo and to connect it to the previous one Daemon did. Four hours later, I was blown away once again. It’s kind of a weird feeling for someone to go into your mind and be able to see what it is that you have visualized for your art work, and yet Daemon had done it to me twice. A few months later I went in to get the dragon re-coloured, and now almost 12 years after getting it first done, I am happy with the dragon on the back of my shoulder. This past April while watching TV, I was punched in the face again. I immediately got on the phone, made an appointment, and was in Fergus three weeks later for my consultation. This time around I am getting a tattoo to represent strength. About four years ago, I gave up a high paying factory job to go back to school, and it was the best decision of my life. It’s been almost five years now, and I am at the tail end of an apprenticeship. I want to get a piece to remind me to be strong and to show how hard I’ve worked the past few years. I’m already prepared for what is going to happen, Daemon is going to go into my mind and see exactly what I’m seeing, and I am going to end up with another piece of art that leaves me speechless. I couldn’t imagine going to anyone else to get tattooed. It’s Daemon, or no one. See ya in August!!

As I did my research regarding who would be the 'chosen one' to perform my tattoo, it became more and more clear that there wasn't really a choice to be made. I had exhausted myself through countless hours of web surfing and research but no one's work really impressed me and no one seemed to have been more substantial then the next...except, Daemon Rowanchilde. The detail I noticed in is his tattooing and paintings were very impressive and his long list of awards and experience convinced me further that he indeed was the one I'd been seeking. After sending pictures and information pertaining to what I wanted eventually I had a consultation with the man himself. He lived off in what many Torontonians would consider to be the middle of no-where, a place called Fergus which I personally had never heard of before. The situation reminded me of old Kung-Fu movies where the Kung-Fu master after conquering the modern world separates himself from society and in order for anyone who wishes to pursue his legend, must venture out of their comfort zone and into the wilderness. Upon arriving at his home and meeting his wife Raven who was the predecessor to meeting Daemon, I was totally relieved and calmed by their warm but almost mythical atmosphere that they call home. Meeting Daemon...he seemed almost unfamiliar or perhaps unaware of the reputation that preceded him as if he had never looked at his own website and knew nothing of the impression it may easily create. He was friendly, attentive and by the end of the consultation he seemed almost as excited as I was, which in turn made me more excited then I had been initially! Finally the time came, I was to spend two days at what I'd like to call 'The Retreat' where I would be further enhanced and ultimately leave there a changed and much better man than I had been, arriving there. My tattoo was to be an angel resembling myself with several Biblical references including the Flaming Sword from Genesis, the beast with seven heads and ten horns from Revelations, a passage from Luke 19:27 as well as the grim reaper and a host of other background cast. My vision combined with his talent and creativity spawned one of the best tattoos I have ever seen in my life!!! During the process which was severely more painful than I expected, I had kept a hat over my head, Ipod playing Radiohead, Black Sabbath, Smashing Pumpkins and a few others who helped me sit through rather calmly. Occasionally I would peek at what was going on and everytime I was surprised by the detail, the shading, the placement and the way the tattoo seemed to be coming together. I almost laughed to myself a couple of times thinking 'This is one of the most amazing experiences I've had in my 27 years' I couldn't recall being born and many of my happier moments lay in the sea of forgetfulness after years of excessive work and intoxication. Here I was getting my ambition cemented in my skin where I would have the leisure and pleasure of viewing it everyday for the rest of my life...and it was soooo beautiful. At the end I thanked them...but my appreciation couldn't be conveyed in words... or so at least I thought... Michael Mitchell

Daemon and Raven, wanted to send a note to say the dragon you gave me brings me a kind of strength and bravery I didn't think I could draw from a piece of body art? It's been over a year since I made the decision to have ink work done on me permanently by Daemon. It was my 2003 MVA that really made me want to finally get a tattoo that I've put off for so many years.Timing brought me onto your doorstep and I've been more than happy for that "destiny."

Congrats on the great press Raven! That is an excellent article! I hope all is well in Fergus. Tell Daemon i say hello and my tattoo healed fantastically. He was correct in that people stop me constantly and ask "what does it mean?" I have mostly been using the answer he recommended "a map home". But the comment i receive most often I could not agree with more; people tell me more than anything, "I've never seen anything like it" which i could not agree with more. Daemon is an incredible and unique individual with equally incredible and unique work and i am honored to wear it.

Dear Daemon and Raven,My name is Stephanie and my mom Carol was at your studio on Monday Nov.20th 2006 getting her FIRST tattoo! I cannot thank you enough for what you have done. The work is unbelievably beautiful and there hasn't been a day yet where I have not asked to see it. The tattoo you did for my mom was a memorial tattoo for my dad who passed away 9 years ago of a 15 year long disease. That night , I dreamed of my Aunt who also passed away of the same disease about 6 years ago. She looked just beautiful , she was so young looking and radiant. I would not have dreamed that had I not been with my mom while you were tattooing her that day. As a side note my dads' Birthday was on the 21st of November. So THANK YOU both for making a very special memory for me. I look forward to seeing you both again. Stephanie Fairweather, Orangeville, Ontario

Hi Raven, I just wanted to touch base now that I’ve had a week to live with my new arm band. I love it. Every time I look at it while applying the healing balm I find some new detail that I didn’t notice before. I no longer consider it just a tattoo but more a work of art. Thank you soooo much to Daemon for a great piece of work. The other night I was having dinner at my sister-in-law’s house and, of course, I showed her my arm. She thought it was wonderful and wanted to know who did it. I told her it was Daemon from Urban Primitive. She said you’re kidding, I know Daemon and Raven. Daemon did a tattoo on her show on TV. My sister-in-law is Adrienne Gold. Small world huh? Regards, John Ullman

Thanks again for the time we were able to spend together. Terri and I love our body artwork; thanks again to Daemon for his creative touch. During my session I read quite a bit about Ken Wilber and I am on the last CD of a 10 CD set called Kosmic Consciousness which is an extended interview with him where all aspects of his work are discussed - highly recommended if you haven't listened to it yet. Anyway, I miss that small meditation bench you have - I've been looking for one for a while. If you have any hints as to where I could get one like that I'd appreciate the hint. Thanks again

Although I have visited Urban Primitive on several occasions for tattoo work, this was my first trip to Fergus. I had been working in Nova Scotia for a number of weeks and took the opportunity visit Ontario before flying back home to the UK.Raven and Daemon's new home was truly impressive and staying there made my visit really special. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming - as always - with plenty of interesting people around (and animals...can't forget the girls) whenever you wanted company. Equally, their large house and grounds and the beautiful towns of Fergus and Elora provided ample opportunity for escape and peace. The reason for my visit was to start a new piece on my right leg; 2-3 days of work and - for once - using colour. As always, Daemon managed to find an elegant "twist" on my ideas and requests, coming up with a design which seemed impossibly complex to tattoo; especially as he used no black ink. Despite the sub-zero temperatures outside and the inevitable discomfort of long tattoo sessions, Raven and Daemon made sure I was comfortable, happy and well fed throughout my stay which made it a truly enjoyable experience (I have a new found love for liquorice). The position of my new tattoo meant that I couldn't use the hot-tub, so I could have planned that better, but otherwise I wouldn't have changed a thing. I look forward to my next visit: to seeing the final changes to the house, perhaps seeing Fergus without snow, to talking with Raven, Daemon, Tim and their guests and to the second phase of my new artwork. I wish them all the best with their new life in Fergus. Clare

Hi Raven and Daemon, I apologize for the lateness of my letter, but I have just arrived back in Toronto after being in Germany for the last 3 months. I just wanted to let you know that both myself and my Mother are absolutely in love with the beautiful artwork Daemon gave me. The experience could not have been better and I deeply thank you for that. The fact that It added another smile to my mother's life, means more to me than anything else. So once again, I thank you both for everything and will hopefully speak to you soon. Best regards, Nami

I once read in the teachings of Don Jaun that like a dog trying to find the perfect spot to lay in, so to must we find our position in order to attain a higher level. I believe that Daemon and Raven have found their little piece of heaven in Fergus. From the moment I arrived, I felt a sense of peace and tranquility. It was a delight to be welcomed to their retreat. This experience was definitely worth the 7-hour journey from Ottawa. Getting into the “zone” as Daemon likes to call it can be very enlightening. I am fortunate to have had such an experience. For me the time spent was like a spiritual awakening. I found myself reflecting on things that hadn’t entered my mind in years. It was truly refreshing. Daemon worked free hand to cover an existing tattoo that I had not been happy with for years. The result is something unique that will always remind me of the special time that I spent with them in their oasis. Jay

Dear Daemon and Raven Words cannot express the depth of emotion that I feel when I look at the beautiful artwork you created for me. Something so beautiful and amazing has blossomed out of such sadness. It truly has been a journey of healing, acceptance and self-discovery. I just wanted to thank you for your caring encouragement and guidance through this transition. While I still have a long way to go, i feel a greater sense of connectedness to both of my [deceased] brothers. They, too, would have appreciated your work and I'm sure they love it as much as I do. I really enjoyed coming up and visiting you guys last Monday. I’m sure like many first-timers I was a little freaked out at having a beautiful piece of art drilled onto my flesh, and it took a little time to get my head around the idea. I felt very comfortable putting myself in your capable hands and deferring to your wisdom re: the design and placement of the tattoo. The settling-in period has been brief and I absolutely love my tattoo. It is beautiful and it represents exactly what I wanted it to. Everyone I’ve shown it to (everyone I see barring the occasional stranger in the street) has been blown away by it and I know that it will continue to bring me joy for many years to come. I am already starting to think about what I want to get next ;o)

Ten years ago I discovered Daemon on the internet while searching for the perfect artist to commemorate my new life. I had lost over 120lbs and wanted to do something for myself that would mark this change. I not only have beautiful art on my body, I gained two wonderful friends. I remember the studio on Church St. and store front on Carlton St. I remember the move to a more private studio/spa in Cabbagetown. Now the retreat setting in Fergus is the most perfect of settings to experience body art from Daemon. He has touched my life in a way that is indescribably and continues to do so.

Hi Raven and Daemon, John and I wanted to thank you for an amazing weekend in Fergus. It was relaxing, fun and great to get to know you two (and your family). The house is beautiful, the food was delicious, and the company was amazing. You made us feel very at home which isn't always easy to do when your anxious about your tattoo sessions. So thanks again, and I'm sure we'll be seeing you soon! Also, we left an unopened bottle of Naked Grape Chardonnay in the small guest fridge. So, please enjoy it as a gift from us for your hospitality. Cheers, D&J

Daemon and Raven. Over the years you have been wonderful. Daemon's work in particular is awe-inspiring. His artwork is really personal and tremendously creative. Even when he's copying something he puts all effort to make it as close to the original as possible, but takes pains to make it at least as beautiful as the original. I am constantly getting compliments at the beauty and colour of my pumpkin and orchid tattoos. I often refer people to your web site. I hope it brings you more delighted people to rave about your skill, the beautiful surroundings in your new place in Fergus, and your warm hospitality.

Many years have passed since Daemon first set ink to my skin, and in those years I have grown and changed in many ways. The symbolism of my original butterfly that, with Daemons help, evolved into a phoenix was the beginning of a journey that continues to this day. It has been over ten years since the last piece was done, and I still have people stopping me to ask whose artwork I'm wearing. I think it's time for more. Still smiling after all these years. Hugs, Zoe.

Hi Daemon and Raven, I just wanted to follow up with you post-tattoo to let you know that I continue to be absolutely delighted with the result. It healed remarkably quickly and looks absolutely perfect in every way. Getting my first (and only) tattoo at the ripe age of 43 - to mark my impending mid-life crisis - was a bit nerve-wracking to say the least. On the drive to your wonderful retreat in Fergus I thought many times about turning the car around and heading back to Toronto. Fortunately I arrived at my destination and was greeted by a smiling, warm Daemon and a beautiful, tranquil home in which to do the deed. I was immediately put at ease. It was the kind of experience I didn't know existed in the body-art world. I always had visions of beefy, angry-looking tattoo artists with head-to-toe tats inflicting serious pain in dingy little studios. Instead I was surrounded by the scent of incense, an airy wood-filled studio with windows opening onto lovely gardens, and the sounds of great jazz and blues music. It was positively exhilarating. Not only had Daemon taken the rough outline of the design I wanted and turned it into a stunning piece of art, the whole experience was something I will remember. It was peaceful, dare I say almost spiritual, and in the end, I have body-art that I love to look at. I can't say enough to recommend Urban Primitive and I thank you both for such a great experience and a wonderful result. Sharon

Dear Daemon and Raven I'm writing to thank you for the absolutely phenomenal experience I had last week getting my tattoo of a Celtic Cross. For me, the tattoo represents a rite of passage. This past year has been about me saying goodbye to my childhood and walking into my adult and 'mother' shoes. Giving birth and now raising my two precious daughters is the most personal thing I will ever do in my life. The tattoo ranks second. And Daemon, like a Shaman would, you instinctively picked up on my energy and designed a cross that tryly represents my spirit. The experience was meditative and magical. I feel that a little bit of your gentle, deep soul has been imprinted on me. I feel truly honoured. Thank you again Daemon and Raven. Sincerely, Susan

Dear Daemon and Raven, Corinne and I wanted to graciously thank you for your hospitality this weekend. Our stay was both fun and relaxing. Half-hour after arriving at your place, we were soaking in the luxury of your outdoor whirlpool, gently sipping red wine as the sultry water swirled around us. The cool misty rain was invigorating on our faces as we looked above us to watch the trees dance in the evening breeze. However, the highlight that night was the long and engaging conversation we shared with you and Raven... while taste-testing quality Scotch! Needless to say, we slept very well. I’m glad that we had the opportunity to explore the region before getting my tattoo. Nearby Elora is the quintessence of serenity. Hiking along the Elora gorge we listened to the music of the water streaming by, savouring the fresh air that was ever so slightly spiced with cedar. At one point we stopped to watch a pair of Canadian Geese living out their free and wild existence. We took some photographs of the beautiful flowers, plants and remarkable insects for later identification. “I will be the gladdest thing Under the sun! I will touch a hundred flowers And not pick one.” –Edna St.Vincent Millay After an exhilarating climb up a sheer cliff to leave the gorge, we rewarded ourselves with some homemade desert and delicious organic coffee at the Dragonfly Cafe, scenically situated beside the river. We were in heaven. All this was the preamble to getting my tattoo. I believe that a tattoo is more than just “body art”, but a representation of your spiritual, emotional and intellectual state of being. A tattoo is a feeling, not a thing- a moment sewn into the fabric of your life, not simply a mark that stains the outside of it. I truly enjoyed the discussion period before getting the tattoo. Up until that moment, neither of us had seriously considered what was going to be created in the next few hours. We were not burdened with expectations. Attentively, you listened to some of our ideas, looked at some of the books that I brought and closely examined a cedar branch and a special rock (with a swirl in it) that I had brought along. From that hodgepodge of ideas you used your artistic skill and acute intuition to create a tattoo that is “me” in absolute essence. During the process, I enjoyed the ambience of my surroundings: century-old limestone walls, hand-hewn wooden beams and exotic decor. The music we listened to was perfect, an eclectic compilation representing a variety of cultures from around the world. It was a comfortable, almost surreal, experience. Raven, the homemade meal you brought home from your mom’s house after our tattoo session was delicious. What a way to end the day! I love my new tattoo. The experience that came with it is priceless. Again, thank you so much! And by the way, I’m really looking forward to that recumbent trike trek through Utah that we tentatively planned! Warm regards, Peter and Corinne

I had a wonderful experience today receiving my first tattoo. I would have liked to have stayed over last night to gain the entire experience, but that's something I couldn't control. The tattoo process was not too far off from what I had expected. I'm glad I had waited for an appointment with you as this will be a permanent reminder of my day and your studio. The artwork Daemon inked is perfect. Thanks again, Glen

I wanted to thank you all for such a wonderful experience. The artwork is exquisite and admired by all that view it, and more importantly, by me. I am so pleased with my piece that I cannot even tell you, and every time I stare at it, it fills me with emotions. Thank you very, very much for contributing such art to my life, I wear it with pride and always will. Also not to be forgotten is the atmosphere in which you work and the people that make it so. Your studio is beautiful and becoming more so by the day, and the people who fill it create a very comfortable and relaxing space to be it. So thank you again for such a great experience, and I'm looking forward to being there again. Also, The new page looks great; clean, sharp, easy to use. Well done.

A bare tree and a vine in full leaf: these are the two images that cover my body thanks to the artistry of Daemon Rowanchilde at Urban Primitive. Before I talk about the artist and the studio, I need to say something about the tattoos. Trees have strong associations for me, even though I’m very much a “city” person. Almost all of the trees at my parents’ home were planted for a special occasion ranging from a White Pine seedling of a Christmas tree in the early 1950s up to a Witch Hazel planted after my father’s death in 1996. A winter tree may seem vulnerable, but it’s not dead, only awaiting the spring when its full beauty will reappear. Trees form the green blanket covering much of the city in their beautiful summer dress, but the bare trunk and branches show us their soul. Their strength and endurance remind us that aggression is not the only way to survive. In 2000, the tree was seven years old, and I began to think of another tattoo — something for summer, but keeping the natural imagery and the sense of something strong, alive and beautiful. The canvas would be different — my back already held the tree, and I wanted something on my arm or leg rather than an echo of the tree on my chest. The image of twinned vines on a rug gave me the idea of a vine running from my right foot, up and around the leg, across my stomach and chest, and down my right arm. The vine grew, quite literally, over three years from ankle to wrist. The main stem is almost nine feet long, not to mention all the leaves and tendrils along the way. This brings me to the artistry. My tree dates from Daemon’s all-black period and though it is mostly natural, it contains some of his trademark tribal swirls from that era. The tree starts with realistic bark at the base, but evolves up the trunk to tribal surrealism mirroring my own personal growth and changes. The outline of the tree was sketched with a marker before the first ink session, but almost all of the tree was drawn and detailed freehand. The experience of having it come alive on my back was haunting — after that first session, when the tree was only an outline of roots, trunk and principal branches, I danced around the studio, feeling the tree dance through me, its branches swaying in a wind only I could hear. By 2000, Daemon had developed his technique of using brush strokes, stipple, and complex shading to give his images depth. The leaves of the vine are, in a way, a catalogue of technique, but they go together as a complete image rather than just a tour-de-force of inkwork. There’s even a few “Daemonesque” leaves in his evolved tribal style. The vine grew over three seasons rather than one, and it is drawn from life (vine cuttings being easier than mature trees to carry into the studio), right down to the bits of leaves chewed out by insects. The third year, the work on my arm, is particularly striking. We were getting down to the end of the vine, the leaves were smaller, and the tendrils searching for new territory became more numerous. Leaves overlap, and their curled forms bring many contrasting surfaces into view. In one spot, there are five separate layers in the image. As a piece of art, I get to admire the technique a lot, but there is far more than technique in the tree and the vine. Urban Primitive is a studio that cares about the environment its artists and its clients will spend a lot of their time in. Even a simple tattoo may take a few hours’ work, and the experience should be memorable, in the best possible way, for the client. Daemon, a long-time friend, was open to my ideas about symbolism and design in the tattoos. His work reflects both my sense of what the work would say and his own visual aesthetic. To commission such large pieces that would evolve as they were inked, was a huge vote of trust by me in an artist whose work I’ve always admired. Over the years, the studio moved from space to space always trying to find that magic, the sense of a place apart from the street outside. Some spaces worked better than others, but the search was always there. Now Urban Primitive is in a house where clients can share the warmth, the relaxation of a friendly, lived-in home.

Dear Rendevous Editors, I would love to share my story of working with my neighbour who is a Cranioscral Therapist. She has kindly volunteered to work with me and the MS that comes with my body. I cannot begin to explain what her training is, or how exactly it works, but it has done wonders for my self-esteem and confidence. She has combined meditation, relaxing breathing, figuring out my resources and making good use of them, and exercises to accompany my breathing and my trek to comfort with MS. One of the priciple components that I have found with her philosophy surrounding her therapy is to become at ease with the dis-ease that I am living with on a day to day basis. Until she moved into my neighbourhood, I had never heard of Craniosacral Therapy, nor would I have tried it if someone recommended it to me. I am a cautious person, and I need to fully understand what I am getting into before attempting the alternate therapy. She has kindly leant me information about her training, as well as videos and CD's to help me learn to trust in my own abilities and strengths. She is incredibly knowledgable about the human physiological make up and has recommended diet changes and thought pattern changes. The exercises she is teaching me have already led to an increase in my stability and better control of my (limited) walking. She listens to my concerns and helps address them in ways that I can find resolutions. We are just beginning our program together and I know that I am recognizing my body a lot clearer than I once did. Initially my response to pain, or various pitfalls along the way was to ignore them and put them aside for another time when I felt like recognizing them. I have recently learned to let my body tell me what it has to say, and to allow it to feel that way and go to a place whereby I can resource, and thereby feel more whole. I have only been diagnosed with MS for a year and a half, but in retrospect I can trace my symptoms back to high school (15 years), which shows how well I am at pushing through regardless of my feelings. The last couple of years have been an amazing journey, and I don't think that I regret a moment of it. MS took a lot out of me, but it is interesting to learn how to put it all back. I have been told numerous times by people that they think that I am very couragous and that they are inspired by my good nature and postitive outlook. Raven Rowanchilde and her therapy have definately helped to increase my sense of well-being with myself and my body. I have learned that while goals are good, they can also put unnecessary pressure on oneself to acheive those set standards, and thereby take away from the little steps that we need to take to get there. I have learned to celebrate each day as it happens, accept the bad days and celebrate the good ones. Sometimes when you have a mountain to climb, you have to enjoy the wonderful view around you, rather than grumbling about how far you have left to climb. I am learning to walk again and taking naps in the afternoon. I sometimes don't make it to the bathroom, and get to have a bath before dinner. I am learning to see the flip side of these issues, rather than getting bogged down in the issues themselves. I would nominate Raven for volunteer of the year for the work she has done, but if I do that, I might not receive as many appointments. I would like to nominate her, and her therapy for an article in Rendevous, as I have found it has helped encourage me to accept where I am, and to look on the bright side of life. I thiink this is something everyone needs once in a while. Sincerely, Sheryl Ignace 440 Tower St. North, Fergus, Ontario N1M 2N9

In life we all make certain choices. My choice to get a tatto was a very personal choice. For me it was also a choice to find someone who had the ability to turn my ideas into a reality. Daemon was obviously the only possible choice. Why would you go to the local parlour when you have as opportunity to have a truly unique experience buy an exceptional artist. CHOICE. If you are just looking to get a tatoo because you think it is cool than maybe Daemon would not be your choice. If on the other hand you are in search of a truly unique experience than book an appointment with a truly warm human being who is there to create something that is as unique as we all aare. Thanks once again Daemon and Raven

September 2003. My triumphant (and slightly inebriated) return to the nation of my birth, Wales. The land and its people truly touched me (I was amazed at the sense of connection I felt to the land) and I truly did not want the trip to end. Over the ensuing months an idea began to form on how I could forever commemorate this event: a tattoo. I've never had a tattoo before so there was some reluctance (fear!) so time passed by. Over a year later, inspired by friend, I finally begin investigating the tattoo artists in the Toronto area. The websites I visited were of varying quality. When I finally happened upon the Urban Primitive website I was immediately impressed. Thorough and professional, it provided a very clear picture of what I could expect before, during, and after the tattooing process. After reading the bio for Daemon and viewing a couple of the sample tattoos I was convinced that this was where I wanted to go. This decision was confirmed by my consultation. I truly got the sense that Daemon was interested in not only the concept for my tattoo (a red dragon, the prominent symbol on the Welsh flag) but the reasons on why I wanted a tattoo in the first place. And so a trip to Fergus is planned. As I do not drive this was more of challenge than originally thought. A number of phone calls, a short subway ride, a Greyhound Bus and a yellow school bus (I kid you not) later I arrive in Fergus on a chilly Thursday evening. Nestled away behind bush and gazebo is the 1876 stone coach house that Daemon and Raven call home and studio. I am greeted loudly at the door by Laylah, Miss Gracie and Lil’ Bit (clad in the latest Fergus fleece fashions). If not for their diminutive size I would be truly terrified (good job ladies). The beauty of the building's exposed stone and timber is beautiful, though there does seem to be a sense of calm and serenity about the place. The design for my tattoo is only partially complete as Daemon wants to work collaboratively on the focus: the red dragon. We review a few images and quickly find an image that provides a commanding presence and also integrates with the pre-Christian scroll work that Daemon has designed. The decision of the placement of the dragon is left to me (a daunting task). Daemon offers to provide a couple of samples in the morning for me to review (seeing the design options visually was a great help for me to make the final decision). I awake rested and ready for the 6 1/2 hours it will take to conclude what began many years ago. So to the sounds of traditional Celtic music it begins. During the periodic breaks I force myself to avoid looking at the work in progress though my occasional inquires are responded to favourably (the 'whooa' from Daemon was particularly encouraging). My first look at the tattoo I feel a bit of both shock and awe. Shock in seeing something new permanently cast into my skin and awe at its beauty. The colour choices match perfectly and work well with my skin tone. Daemon has extensively used a stippling effect that lends a texture to the piece. The dragon is certainly the focal point and seems to emerge from my body. My tattoo healed with little peeling, a testament to Daemon’s skill with the needle. As the tattoo has a very personal meaning for me, I had planned on sharing it only with close friends and family though I do find myself constantly wanting to rip off my shirt and share its beauty with everyone. It is truly a one of a kind work of art and I thank Daemon and Raven for helping make this experience such an excellent one and for the permanent reminder of my journey to my hearts home.

About my personal transformation: I have been coming to Daemon since 1999 - so, over 6 years as I write this at the end of 2005 - my first piece of art was a small symbol on my left shoulder-blade. I originally came in with something I designed, and Daemon simply suggested that let him put his touch on the art; I am glad I did - the effect his art had on my mind was as indelible as the ink on my body. Initially, I would only get a tattoo every couple of years, generally something small to mid sized, with personal meaning yes, but generally little more than decoration. However, in 2003, all that changed. I was experiencing sweeping changes in my life - so significant I was compelled to manifest in the physical world the changes I was experiencing internally... I could even close my eyes and see where the patterns of energy were forming - not the particular designs themselves, but a 'radiation' of where they *should* be. *That* was when my road of transformation truly started - and Daemon happens to be, at the same time, my companion, my guide, and my facilitator on this road. There is a wonderful quote from Michelangelo: "I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free." This is how I see Daemon's methodology - the design are already there on my body, he is merely making them physical. I am about a third of the way through my full-body concept, with my arms, chest and a portion of my back done, and I say with great pride that I have not once received a tattoo from anyone other than Daemon, and I don't plan on receiving one from someone other than Daemon either... ever. There is a word in the english language that literally means a person or thing without equal, and that word is nonesuch. And even that word cannot convey how powerful the experience and the reward of Daemon's design. About the new studio: Being a city-boy, I had *great* reservations about the 90 minute commute to Fergus, of all places, to get my work done. But, I don't enjoy spending weeks or possibly months with half finished tattoos waiting to find time when Daemon would be in Toronto, so I bit the bullet and decided that the trip was inevitable. During my drive in that morning, I truly did feel like I was embarking on a journey, the trip itself became symbolic: I was leaving my day-to-day life, and entering uncharted waters. Not being afraid of a bit of driving, my original intention was to head back home, and sleep in my bed only to get up the next morning and repeat the process - having booked to back-to-back days. It was pure serendipity that the weather was so inclement I was *forced* to stay over night - and I am so glad I did. The new studio is as secluded and private as the old one in the city - because the buildings' original purpose was a barn, it is situation deep in the lot, with access granted by a lane - not being on the street itself, it further reinforces the feeling of seclusion, that you are entering something really special. The building is aesthetically beautiful - it's an old barn that had been converted to a house, with huge, ancient wooden beams and thick stone walls. But beyond that, Daemon and Raven have done an astounding job making it a true retreat: the suites are completely private, and luxurious - private bathrooms with jacuzzi's; big, comfortable beds; even television's with DVD players. After a full day of tattooing, and the stress it puts on the body, you can retire to your suite, watch a movie, or even better, catch up on some reading with no-one to bother you. The entire experience harkens back to ancient cultures, being secluded with a shaman or medicine man, undergoing a transformation, or a rite of passage - you spend your *entire* day with Daemon, sharing your meals with him, conversing while the work is being done, and then at night, you retire, in absolute peace, and reflect on the day. It is powerful; it is profound; it is sacred.

Thanx again Daemon for making my ink come to life. The additions and creative blending finalized my previously unfinished art. I'm so happy with your work, as I'm complimented wherever I go. The technique and design used are so unique and I'm proud to say that it is my favorite tattoo ever!

Journal Entry/Nov 6, 2005. Today I had a incredible journey. I was to have my second tattoo/body art session with Daemon of Urban Primitive Body Art out in Fergus, ON. I admit, I wondered what on earth he was doing way out in the boonies.....however, once I arrived I did not need to wonder anymore. In leaving the city of Toronto one leaves behind a urban, concrete, hustle-like conciousness. I found myself feeling like a pilgrimage was taking place. A new awareness started to emerge, the beautiful Ontario landscape, rolling hills, colorful trees, quiet and calm were everywhere.....what a beautiful drive. After following easy directions I arrived in Fergus, lovely small town full of history and vibrancy. When I finally arrived at the Urban Primitive Studio I pulled in front of a beautiful house that offered a garden gazebo and small contemplation trail. Beyond the welcoming garden was a stone section of the studio. Built in 1876, this section of the studio looks like an ancient place of worship, VERY POWERFUL PRESENCE. This house was amazing, pilates and yoga studio graced the lower level, beautiful dark wooded interior added a lot of warmth and naturalism. The art studio was amazing. Huge 10 foot dark wood doors were hand sculpted with mastery. As I entered I bowed. Im not sure why, but when you walk thru those temple doors you know why. This Stone Tattoo Temple was breathtaking. A 30 ft ceiling, open studio concept with a upper balcony that housed a library sized book collection. Hardwood floors, stone walls and huge skylights spilling in natural light. I felt like I was in a waking dream. As I reclined in the chair, the buzzing of the tool and the sounds of carefully selected eclectic songs started my trance...the tattoo trance. As I reclined back even further I gazed at the ceiling sky lights watching clouds whiz by giving the sensation of the studio itself being in flight. It felt like this room was flying. WOW!! This place is very powerful. I never thought getting a tattoo could be such a spiritual and healing experience, gone are the days of the "Traditional Tattoo Parlor" say hello to the most innovative and progressive body art studio/temple in North America which features the most talented and brilliant tattoo/body artist on earth, the humble master, Daemon of Urban Primitive. Bravo!

Hello Daemon, I just wanted to thank you for the amazing job you did on my tattoo; I have not been able to stop staring at it since I got it. Seeing as how this was my first (and certainly not my last), I really did not know what to expect, but you managed to surpass even my greatest expectations--from making me feel relaxed and comfortable to answering my questions with honesty and straight-forwardness to creating a piece of art so original and representative of me that even my mom admits is absolutely georgous. The friendly atmosphere including Raven, Leah, Tim, Nez, the dogs, and of course, yourself, helped to ease any feelings of nervousness into ones of complete joy and satisfaction. Thanks again for going above and beyond!

Hi. I have been browsing sites looking for ideas for my next tattoo and found it on your site. Its not on there as a tattoo but at the end of the letter from both of you was the drawing of a woman holding her arms up to the sun and her belly in yellow to match the sun. WOW!! That says everything I wanted to express. I hope to be able to see you personally to have it done. Good luck with the move. Fergus is such a great place to relax and get in touch with nature, spirit guides and your inner self.

I believe that when I need to thank a lot of people, then it'd be better to thank God first. So thank God for bring me to Urban Primitive! Thank God for letting me know Daemon and Raven! Thank God for letting Daemon give me the great tattoo and thank God for giving me such an awesome experience! And thank you so much Daemon. I totally love the tattoo. I stare at it whenever I get chance. These days I've heard tons of praise about it. "Awesome", fabulous", "fantastic", "amazing"– These words I've heard so much when I show it to my friends. And some of my friends just keep asking me to show them my tattoo whenever they see me. It seems kind of bothering me but actually I laugh in my heart because I’m so proud of it. I can’t wait to get my second one. Daemon, you are world class. You rock! You’ve made this world much cooler! Now I’d like to share some of my experiences with everyone. Since this is my first tattoo, I felt a bit nervous and hesitated about what kind of tattoo I should get. However, after I went through their website and met Daemon in the consultation, I was so impacted by the Daemonology and I felt so unwavering that I must have a tattoo and it must be done by Daemon. The most important thing is Daemon designed a dream tattoo for me! A great piece of art that is ONLY for me! His One-Of-A-Kind principle displays not only great responsibilities but also great respects on personalities. It is so important to me and other clients. Tattoo is not just a tattoo, indeed it is an extension of your body. I also feel that it is all or nothing. If you decide to get a tattoo, then get the best one or just don’t do it at all because tattoo is a lifetime long art on your body which cannot be erased. So if you consider getting a best tattoo for you that you’ll never feel regret, I strongly recommend Daemon since he is absolutely one of the best artists in the world. You can see this by looking his works or just google ˇ°best tattoo artist Torontoˇ, and the tattoos of Nightcrawler in the movie X Men II were designed by Daemon! Especially for you first tattoo, I feel the first experience is the most significant. During the whole tattoo process, I felt a friendly air, artistic ambiance and Daemon’s passion, talent and great personality. All of these just made me more comprehend the spirit of tattoo art and this keeps making me love my tattoo more and more and more. Daemon, thank you so much for the great tattoo!

Hello I come from Poland. Its sad but in our country we have no artists, no studios. Your tatoo are probobly the best on the world. Your works, pictures and photos with tatoos are in our country like samples, models. My hobby is riding a motorbike. I like tatoos, leather clothing and I wish could have go to studio like your, maybe sometime. But generally your work have big group of fans in my country, in Ukraine (In Kijew) many people make tatoos, I was in schock but not only young pretty girls and outsiders, but normal people started to make it. And so they try to copy your style.

Hello Raven and Daemon, Very glad to see your website and the news about your move. Your retreat looks absolutely ideal. I would love to come up for your warming party. It's amazing how you two continue to affect my life. One of the best things I can say about you both is the compassion and openness that you have for those around you. I have soaked that in, and now giving Thai massage and practicing yoga is a way for me to give back to those around me. I truly feel that we share many of the same views on society, the planet and the body. Again, congratulations on your coming move. I look forward to a visit once you're settled in.

After my car accident and my meeting with death, I wanted to get a tattoo that would be symbolic of everything that it put me through. I got a second chance at life and I could not fuck it up. Life to me was now serious. I went to a few tatto artists with my idea but they did not capture what I wanted. One night i searched on the internet and I found out about urban primitive. The fact alone that they dont avertise it and that you can only know of them through word of mouth or the internet says enough already...that they are not just a money making machine, but that they are also very passionate about the art of tattooing. So I made an appointment wuith daemon and told him of my idea. As time went by, I received a line drawing of what my tattoo would look like, but I became very neurotic, because it is something that will be permnenty on your body. Because I was indecisive, Daemon told me to come in and will do it free hand. At first, I thought he meant he would began inking it right on my body and there was no way I would let that happen. After some hard thought and debate whether I should even show up, I said "fuck it! Ill show up, if he gets the idea of inking it free hand on my body... ill run!" I showed up and fortunately, Daemon said "ill free hand it with marker, that way I know the contour of your body and I can design it to more to your liking" So we briefly talked over the idea and he began drawing it...with marker....off course...otherwise I would have run. He told me if I dont like a few things, hell change em. After he drew it, I checked it out in the mirror, and I liked it but again I began getting neurotic thoughts, and so I said "Daemon, just do it". I was familiar with his portfolio and so I trusted him. If i would not like what he does on my arm...then I would get up and run. After five hours of watching the needle jab into my arm, I got up and checked it in the mirror, and it came out better then I imagined it would. It came out much bigger then I thoght it would as well, and so I told Daemon, Im giving his number to my mom so he could deal with the nagging and not me. What I love about the tattoo is that it is very dreamlike and filled with symbolism. Meanwhile it is very psychedilic. to me, it has deep meaning in the sense that you have a soul being surrounded by fire (a metaphor for temptation and struggle) as it looks away from it and reaches for the poitive energy above it. All the tribal elements within he design I left to Daemon, and he did a great job, otherwise, I would have got up and run. The atmosphere was very laid back as well. Daemon invites you into his home and he treats you like a person and not a client. He even bought me a sandwich and the best rice pudding which I ever ate. So all in all, It was worth going in and not running away. It was good to put trust into daemon and let him creatively do what he does best. When searching for an artist I learned that there is a very important thing to keep in mind: can the tatoo artist ink it on your body as well as he can ink it on paper? and I think daemon can ink better on your body then on paper, otherwise I would have run! Daemon, Raven, Daemon's mother, and all the dogs, it has been a pleasure to meet all of you. I love my new tat, now i must go show it off. I m leaving it at this one tattoo that I have. I am not comin back for more. I know that daemon did it in such a way, that alot more could be added in the future, but like I told you, If I call, hang up the phone. My mother has not seen that tattoo yet, but when she does, she will give you a call. Cheers!

Hi Daemon, Raven, I just wanted to thank you again. The tattoo turned out better than I envisioned. The level of detailing is astounding. I think I see something new everytime I look at it. I guess you guys are in the midst of your move to Fergus. I hope that it's working out well for you.

Daemon, Your enthusiasm and patience was appreciated. The holistic environment was calming, and full of creativity. You have surpassed my expectations of what I had envisioned my tattoo to be. You captured the beauty of the balloon flowers well, and cleverly enhanced them with your Intuitive and detailed ‘Energy Wave’. I really like how you used the negative space, and how it provides depth in an almost ‘Escher-like’ style of optical illusion. Thank-you!

I am not one for fancy clothes, perfumes, or jewelry. I prefer more permanent body adornment. Permanent is relative, nevertheless, I choose to wear the body art known as tattoos. For me, the tattooing process is an interactive one. It is about control, choice and aesthetic. My body is my vehicle, my playground, and my temple. I also enjoy challenging assumptions, suppositions and prejudices. I am completely unashamed of my naked body as it is with its scars, piercings and art. I am a citizen of this world and beyond. I am proud of my heritage with all its richness, variety and wealth. I love my life - the tremendous gift that my life is. Regardless of the trials and tribulations, regardless of the wild highs and lows, I prevail. Am I my body? The first reaction that people have when they see my body art is usually, “Cool” or “That’s a beautiful tattoo.” Some wince visibly and ask, “Does it/did it hurt?” Some think that I must have a high tolerance to pain. I do not even associate my body art with pain. I have vague recollections of fleeting moments of discomfort, but largely I remember the stimulating dialogue, the wondrous variety of music played, our shared meals and being fascinated with the creative process. Daemon and his family have become part of my family. In Daemon and Urban Primitive Studios, I have found the exemplary environment to explore the limits of personal creativity. I trust Daemon implicitly with my skin.

despite my tattoo being covered most of the time in public, I have been going to bars with my brother, and he insists on seeing the angel on the grave at every bar. So many people have seen it, and all think it is absolutely brilliant work. People asking me where it was done, how long it took, amazed at the shading… Thanks again very much for a very positive first tattoo experience, and good luck with the move.

Dear Daemon, Thank you very much. I love the tattoo. It only felt sore for couple of hours after it was done and only when touched. By Sunday it felt healed no soreness whatever. And I love that Healing Balm! Interestingly, the image I kept having in my meditation (the inspiration for the tattoo) disappeared from my mind. And even when I try to invoke it, it takes me to my heart area instead of an image popping up. The other thing that keeps coming up that is interesting - I was having a ăprotectionä in mind connected to the tattoo but now I keep getting ăcourageä instead. I guess courage is a form of protection, isnât it? For me the meaning of things become clearer over longer periods of time and I look forward to listening to the image, to my tattoo. I am a fan of Ayurveda and I am interested in Marmas. By tattooing a marma is created (an area where energies are concentrated). Itâs definitely something I noticed this time around. Thanks for the good vibe.

You've made me a happy man! Not only do I smile every time I look at my tattoo but I just noticed that you are moving to a new home that is partially built from a barn. My wife and I have purchased the barn off her family's farm (which is being destroyed as it's being mined for gravel by Lafarge) and we are planning to turn it into our home. Now if I could only win the lottery we might be able to actually make our dream come true. I think it's absolutely wonderful that other people are interested in such dwellings. Preserving the history and craftsmanship in these quickly disappearing structures is something I am passionate about. Barn structures are a large part of our heritage and are not fully recognised for their importance historically or architecturally. The warmth these types of dwellings provide is unparalleled (in North America anyway) and I hope you enjoy it! I'm just so excited that the next time I get a tattoo it will be in such a structure. Hope the move goes well.

Hi Daemon/Raven - Been meaning to write you a while ago but I've been just swamped with work, travel, life ... I trust you're both well and enjoying the holiday season. I just wanted to say thanks again for the fantastic job you did on my arm. It truly is a work of art. Even after all these weeks, I'm still in awe. My mom especially loves it. At first she was a little freaked out when I told her how big it was but when she finally saw it, she had nothing but great things to say. In fact, just the other day, she proudly brought it up at our Christmas dinner with of all my relatives. I'm not a real fan of being put on "display" but hey, it's just a proud mom wanting to show off her son so it's all good. The experience was amazing too. The company was great and the vibe was super fantastic. As a first timer, you guys really helped put me at ease. You guys rock and I can't wait for my next one! Hmmm ... now where to put it? :) Thanks again!

After 5 years of research and traveling thousands of miles in and out of various tattoo shops, it truly was a blessing to have been this lucky to have found you and your studio. Heres my advice for anyone considering a tattoo. Do your homework!! You only get one chance.. Unfortunately there is no regulatory body for tattooing. Its unfortunate because Urban primitive would exceed beyond the highest standards if true guidelines and certification were legislated. "This aint no death metal, slug ink slinging shady tattoo parlor". You wont see flash posted on the walls like the paint & wallpaper department at home depot, and No ones walking around with a bone in there lip, chain hangin off their wallet, key chain stuck to their eyelids with there skateboard parked out back. Theres no attitude here, its all about you . . . The client. Professional, clean, courteous, personal and anyone of the staff posses extraordinary skills as real artisans. They just happen to enjoy the medium of tattooing. Look at this website,(pics of all there work) note the use of custom color, blending, shading, stippling and all done to suit the skin tones they work on. This can only come from real experience. I have to be honest, at the start I wasn't scared of any pain that I had heard about, what scared the living hell out of me, was the commitment. After all.. You get married..if it doesn't work . . .couple of lawyers later a house hear and there…and your out unscathed. But a tattoo?! This is lifelong commitment. "Hell has no fury like the scorn of a bad tattoo" LOL~~! If you were looking for cosmetic surgeon, you would search and investigate to find the best physician, one that not only did superior work, but someone who made you feel comfortable. A person that loves what they do and exudes a level of confidence in their ability that you immediately would pick up on. This is truly synonymous with Daemon Rowanchilde. I might add the studio staff were clearly committed to making this a pleasant experience. And after reading this long winded unsolicited testimonial…if you still don’t believe what IM saying . . .You're not ready and a tattoo isn't for you.. Did I mention I have a corporate job? Be thankful your reading this because you just found the right people that no who they are what they are doing.

I had to thank you for such an awesome experience getting my first tattoo last Sunday. Because it was my first, and I'd heard every horror story under the sun over the years from other people about getting a tattoo, I was really nervous. I didn't need to worry though, because everything about the studio radiated support and comfort and relaxation from start to finish. All of you made me feel so welcome it was like I'd known you for years, and was just visiting old friends. My biggest issue was the concern about how much pain would be involved, and again, I shouldn't have worried, because the mild discomfort I felt was miniscule compared to what I'd imagined it would be, so I was able to really pay attention to the experience. Daemon was fantastic! He took the main symbol I brought and designed a perfect complement to both the symbol and my personality. Plus his energy during the process was such a calming influence and helped me to fully absorb this new experience. I LOVE my tattoo!! My only problem now is that I want to look at it constantly because it's so beautiful, and since it's on my back, I'm straining my neck a bit looking around to stare at it in the mirror - small price to pay! I also can't believe how good it looked literally the day after I got it. As for all those horror stories, I feel sorry for the people who got tattoos anywhere besides Urban Primitive, because they missed out on an amazing, positive experience. Before last Sunday I would not have imagined that getting a tattoo could totally change me, and the way I look at and interact with the world, but that's what's happened. I'm already planning to figure out how soon I can make the consultation appointment with Daemon for my next tattoo. I really can't thank you all enough!! Until next time...

After experiencing many tattoo sessions, I have observed several tattoo phenominon and thought about them, reached a few conclusions. First I will go back to various Discovery channel programs, about the iceman, and his tattoos, and the comment about all the oldest intact bodies, have tattoos. The iceman, being the oldest, and the relationship of many of them to places where acupuncture, and acupressure work. Many of his tattoos were on "medical" locations. Second one can easily add to the list, the various known chakra and other locations on the body. Third it is easy to add comments from other tattooed people, and artists. I read many of the tattoo magazines, articles and letters to the editors. During tattoo sessions, I have many times had the experience of the tattoo needle touching a certain place, or nerve, and seeing images in my mind. Usually just one. Sometimes in color, sometimes in black gray and white. Mostly fixed images, sometimes in motion. Sometimes the images are familiar, from my memory that I recognize, and other times, I have no idea. Sometimes there are just patterns, similar to when one closes one's eyes, and presses on them. Other senses, such as smell, sound, taste, touch, I have not noted any. Perhaps, because I tend to be a very visual person, I have not noted them, or they have gotten blurred in the rest of the experience. The night afterward, sometimes I experience more dreams, more active and vivid dreams. This last time for example, I acquired some ink on my back, near a chokra area, and that night, I had dreams of endless images. Like going through a large box of photographs. Very few could I identify any of the details. All black gray and white images. Thousands. Hour after hour. I got only a very tiny bit of sleep that night. There was a group of 4 of us, and we compared notes. I have not really had any horrible dreams afterward. Many types. I have not noticed any fixed trend or groups of dreams. I may also have had dreams that I do not remember. Perhaps this is why I so much like the group experience. There is the bond of the mutual experience, and others around to note and compare it with. Perhaps, the tattoo in ancient times, as today, served many purposes. Not just rites of passage, or tribal membership, also medical, part of the acupuncture experience, mark where work has been done, or where what works. My guess is that the two were very much related. I would suggest to help induce dreams to the list. I know people who say that the tattoo is theraputic. One pain to fight or counter another. Like a shield or armour or totem. Bring out the inner self. Decorate, to mark or commerate events or things. Can mean just what you want it to mean. For me, it is the best thing that I do that helps make me feel good about me. Even better than chocolate. "A society that will trade a little liberty for a little order, will loose both, and deserve neither." --Thomas Jefferson

From Ostrich to Peacock - one toddler's journey into the world A little less than one year ago my son, Turner was diagnosed with Autism. He was a seemingly vacant little boy always lost in his own world. He would bury his head and cower in fear at the sight of anyone who wasn't immediate family. Wordless, he made no attempts to reach out. Never asking for anything, not even food. Completely disconnected, he had no desire for anything, but isolation. Suddenly, his world changed. His mother held an intervention and they both began Craniosacral Therapy in an attempt to reach each other. Months later Turner beams with joy at the possibilities that await him each day. He proudly shows his mother all of his "tricks": singing songs; counting effortlessly; narrating the world; and reaching out to adults and peers alike. He looks forward to seeing his friends and engages boldly in shared activities. Sometimes even too boldly. At the end of the day Turner runs, grinning ear to ear, into his mother's arms. A mother he barely recognized a year ago has become his best friend, his home. Their love for each other makes them both stronger as they tackle another day in their ever expandind world together. Boldly they strut, eyes up searching the horizon and feet firmly planted.

I am writing to let you know how pleased I am with my tattoo. It has healed completely and beautifully. The skin balm that you gave me was a wonderful product that you (or the producer, if other than yourself) should consider mass-marketing. I have received many compliments on the artwork and your attention to detail. All of the people who have seen the tattoo are "blown away" by the detail that is there and invariably ask to have a closer look to appreciate it. Usually the comment that follows that is: "Beautiful". I knew as soon as we were finished the session that, if this is my one and only tattoo, I can be proud of it and confident that in any company this work is from the best! I do feel that my outside reflects more of who I am on the inside since the addition of this artwork. I am already thinking of my next addition (you did tell me that tattooing is addictive). I am thinking of a half-sleeve in full colour for my right arm. Needless to say, I know where I will be going when I am ready.

I had been thinking of getting a tattoo since I was ten years old, but for years could not decide what I wanted to get. When I finally decided upon a design, I began to look for places to get it done. I am from California and although I found many great artists there, none of them really stood out. After coming to Toronto for university in 2001, I decided it was time. Towards the end of my first year, I began searching all throughout the GTA for just the right artist and when I found your website, I fell in love with your work and knew I had to get my first tattoo done at Urban Primitive. I was on a short time schedule, but you managed to fit me in just a week and half before I went back home for the summer. Although I was nervous to begin with, the atmosphere at your studio relaxed me and it was a truly enjoyable experience. Upon returning home, I was unsure of how my parents would react, but I showed them anyway. My dad was furious, but after the initial shock, he came to appreciate the design, especially after I explained that my design was something of a tribute to him (it's a gecko on the back of my neck, he's been an avid reptile collector all his life and has been my inspiration for studying zoology). From other skeptics I've gotten comments such as "You know, I don't normally like tattoos, but I just can't hate yours because it's so beautiful!". Since getting the tattoo, I have been stopped by strangers on the street (in stores, restaurants, at work, wherever!) who compliment me on the design. It's a great conversation starter. I've already got plans for my next tattoo, and hope to get it done by you after I graduate university - it's one of the most addicting things I've ever done! I want to thank you so much for the beautiful piece of artwork that I will be proud to have for the rest of my life.

My artistic transformation : When I met Daemon at the '92 Lollapalooza concert, I was in school preparing for a career in law enforcement. I booked an appointment to get a small design tattooed on my shoulder blade. I had drawn it many years before, and had been carrying it in my wallet to be 100% sure that I could live with it on my skin for the rest of my life. The fact that my design style fit into the same category as Daemons‰ made it that much easier. The reason I wanted it was a keepsake for the first real design I ever made, and to have something cool to show people. Little did I realize the importance of Urban Primitive in my future, the seed that my new tattoo would plant, and how my approach to the experience of being tattooed would evolve. When I arrived at his third floor apartment on an incredibly hot summer day, I was greeted by a guy with a big bone piercing through his nose, and an even bigger smile. Since that day I've been back five times over eleven years, and through four studios Daemon's smile has never faltered. As their business has grown, they have always left their mark on me with their welcoming, accepting and earnest attitude. They also showed me that a business could be developed out of a love for art. My parents had raised me with a conservative and reasonable outlook - go to University, get a career, and keep your art as a hobby. Through six years of schooling in Law and Law Enforcement and four years of investigation, it took the downfall of the Eaton Empire for me to see the light. Throughout this corporate resume preparation of a life, I continued getting tattooed by Daemon, but always in places that could be covered up in the business world. During the six months of my budding careers' death, I had a lot of time to devote to my art. The images went from small and abstract, to bold meaningful creations that came from deeper and deeper within my heart. With the support of loving friends and family, and a healing adventure in Jamaica, my values began to change. My pursuit of happiness used to be the accumulation of wealth and modern conveniences. All the while silently expressing myself through Daemon‰s tattoos, I slowly realized that my health, art and love of nature are far more powerful than any TV, stereo or car. My transformation has been a curved and crazy path that started with my body. After being a smoker for ten years, I quit, and soon after began taking Ashtanga yoga. What first began as a vehicle to stretch my aching muscles has become an integral part of my new life. As I approach my second anniversary with the Downward Dog yoga centre, I have become strong and flexible, but I have also learned meditation through focus, and am more in touch with every part of my body and mind. The reason for the placement of my latest tattoo was to ensure I keep up my level of fitness, and make beautiful the canvas that Daemon has so effortlessly brought to life. My first tattoo came from the ink in a tattoo gun, whereas this last time it seemed to be raised by energy from under my skin, simply revealing what had always been there. From my collarbone to my forearm, the art radiates with every flexed muscle. With my deep breaths and warrior pose, I will now be practicing yoga with an even bigger window to my soul. During my latest session at Urban Primitive, four years after the last six-hour session, I balanced our amazing conversations with deep yoga breaths. While deep in a posture, one is told to breathe into the stretch. While my surroundings relaxed me, I breathed life into my right arm for three hours, and felt an elation I couldn‰t know existed the first time I sat in that chair. It was a warm Thursday afternoon when I arrived at the new studio. Two new puppies sunbathed in the reception area, where design books from every culture and corner of the world lined the walls. By the time Daemon had finished his area sterilization and set up, my nervousness was completely forgotten. Beautiful relaxing music, a blend of modern and ancient rhythms filled the air. I climbed into the chair and for the next three hours looked out the rooms' very large window and watched nature. Birds and trees were my entertainment, while a cat sleeping on a neighbour's roof made me realize how beautiful the world was at that moment. I believe that I wasn't tattooed this last time, that‰s too generic a term. Urban Primitive's slogan 'The Art of Transformation' describes the outcome of the product they sell, but the experience they create could not be found in a parlour with walls covered in attitude and generic designs. Tattoos for me are sacred and powerful messages to the world. So to design the flow and let Daemon get creative with the details is the absolute highest compliment and level of trust I could give anyone. Our latest piece of art has, in one short day, awoken me to a new level of emotional existence. My artistic transformation is complete. Now I can get on with my evolution. Thanks Daemon.

A bare tree and a vine in full leaf: these are the two images that cover my body thanks to the artistry of Daemon Rowanchilde at Urban Primitive. Before I talk about the artist and the studio, I need to say something about the tattoos. Trees have strong associations for me, even though I'm very much a "city" person. Almost all of the trees at my parents' home were planted for a special occasion ranging from a White Pine seedling of a Christmas tree in the early 1950s up to a Witch Hazel planted after my father's death in 1996. A winter tree may seem vulnerable, but it's not dead, only awaiting the spring when its full beauty will reappear. Trees form the green blanket covering much of the city in their beautiful summer dress, but the bare trunk and branches show us their soul. Their strength and endurance remind us that aggression is not the only way to survive. In 2000, the tree was seven years old, and I began to think of another tattoo -- something for summer, but keeping the natural imagery and the sense of something strong, alive and beautiful. The canvas would be different -- my back already held the tree, and I wanted something on my arm or leg rather than an echo of the tree on my chest. My tree dates from Daemon's all-black period and though it is mostly natural, it contains some of his trademark tribal swirls from that era. The tree starts with realistic bark at the base, but evolves up the trunk to tribal surrealism mirroring my own personal growth and changes. The outline of the tree was sketched with a marker before the first ink session, but almost all of the tree was drawn and detailed freehand. The experience of having it come alive on my back was haunting -- after that first session, when the tree was only an outline of roots, trunk and principal branches, I danced around the studio, feeling the tree dance through me, its branches swaying in a wind only I could hear. By 2000, Daemon had developed his technique of using brush strokes, stipple, and complex shading to give his images depth. The leaves of the vine are, in a way, a catalogue of technique, but they go together as a complete image rather than just a tour-de-force of inkwork. There's even a few "Daemonesque" leaves in his evolved tribal style. Even a simple tattoo may take a few hours' work, and the experience should be memorable, in the best possible way, for the client. Daemon, a long-time friend, was open to my ideas about symbolism and design in the tattoos. His work reflects both my sense of what the work would say and his own visual aesthetic. To commission such large pieces that would evolve as they were inked, was a huge vote of trust by me in an artist whose work I've always admired. Over the years, the studio moved from space to space always trying to find that magic, the sense of a place apart from the street outside. Some spaces worked better than others, but the search was always there. Now Urban Primitive is in a house where clients can share the warmth, the relaxation of a friendly, lived-in home.

Hi there! It's been a long time since I got my tattoo, but wanted to add my comments. I had my tattoo done my Daemon back in 1999. I am always getting tons of compliments on it. Even those who think they dislike tattoos, describe mine as 'very pretty'. Being fairly 'vanilla', I was quite nervous about getting it done, but Daemon was so relaxing and was so good about telling me what was happening with each step. Whenever someone tells me they're thinking about getting a tattoo, I always refer them to Urban Primitive! Thanks again, Daemon.

Dear Tim, Raven & Daemon, Jackie and I would like you thank you all for taking the tattoo experience to another level of intimacy and spirituality. We cleansed and shed one skin to regain another. What a way to begin such an intense session! Using your stunning, spa, a visual treat in itself, was most pleasurable and relaxing for us both. If I had not been so eager to get inked, Jackie and I may have considered use of the loft also ;-) We anticipate our session in April. Daemon, would you please send Jackie and I the jpegs that you took last night? Thanks again,

Hi Daemon, This is my experience with my first tattoo. Although it has been years since my first tattoo,I can remember it as if it were yesterday. I did not know what to expect. I only knew that I wanted a tattoo of my primary totem-- leopard. I had Daemon choose the music, which I greatly enjoyed. At first I felt a tingling, stinging sensation and as I relaxed into the music ------------------ I was a leopard! I could sense the awareness ( of being leopard) within my mind. I felt a floating sensation. I felt that as my tattoo progressed I became more leopard. I could feel my body as leopard / my whiskers, my claws, my muscles rippling as I moved. Gradually I " knew " I was leopard and in Africa. I was relaxing in a sausage tree. I had eaten well and was content. It was nearing dusk. In the distance I began to see flickers of light, which I soon recognized as camp fires. I could see the silhouettes of the Bedouin people round the fires. I could see their tents and their goats and hear their voices. I could smell the smoke from the fires and feel the breeze ruffle my fur. I had no sense of time --------- only of being timeless. I did not want this feeling to end; but my tattoo was finished. Slowly I removed myself from the trance-like state. I was back in reality. However I know that this beautiful experience will remain with me as long as I live.

Hi All. Helen Milsom here. I just wanted to let you know that I'm absolutely delighted with the tattoo I have by Daemon back on June 8th. I followed aftercare instructions to a tee and it healed beautifully. Minimum flaking. I've had many compliments on it by those I've shown. I'm being careful though not to expose it to UV at this time through the summer. Thanks. Hope you're having a great summer.

My wife and I decided to get tattoos for our tenth wedding anniversary. Neither of us had been tattooed before, though we had been thinking about it for some time. We wanted to find artists whose work would be unique and would reflect our personal vision. Searching on the web, we noticed that much of the work artists put on display appeared to be rather impersonal and generic, rather than the personal and unique art work that we wanted. Much of the tattoo art we came across looked to us like designs that could be applied just as easily to a flat surface like a tee shirt as to a body -- not really designed to work with the body's shape and movement. But when we saw Daemon's and Leah's art on Urban Primitive's web site, we were struck by the compelling beauty of their designs, by how the art looked specifically designed to work with the body of the wearer, and by how much their designs appeared to respond to both the ideas that the client had brought in and to the particular vision and talent of artists. There was really no question that we would be working with Urban Primitive for our tattoos when we went in for the consultations, but the consultations themselves just reinforced our confidence that these were the artists we wanted to work with. Daemon and Leah took our ideas and worked them up into stunning designs. For my wife, working with Daemon was delightful. She was especially impressed with his willingness and interest in working to develop a unique colour palette for a design that drew heavily from Celtic sources. He seemed to have an almost intuitive grasp of the look she was hoping for. Leah was also remarkably responsive, and she came up with a gorgeous design. She took the elements I had suggested and transformed them into a design more elegant and striking than I had imagined. The process of getting tattooed was also pleasant. The studio is extremely comfortable and calming, and the artists worked gently and skilfully. Urban Primitive combines an atmosphere of joy and creativity with high professional skills and standards. We would recommend Urban Primitive to anyone who wants a tattoo. But we would especially recommend Daemon and Leah to someone who is thinking about their tattoo not only in terms of wearing a piece of art on their body, but also in terms of making their body into a work of art.

Hi all, I just wanted to write you, and tell you what a wonderful experience my first tattoo was. I absolutely love the dragon. I've had my shirt off at least 20 times in the last few days at work. Most of the people recognize that it's excellent work even if they are a wee bit shocked at the size. Anyone who has had a tattoo is very impressed with the post-sticking appearance of my tat. I had virtually no swelling, and they said it looked like it was a healed tat….not just a couple days old. I'm not sure how much of it is me, you, or your aftercare ointment, but I personally give y'all the stroke. Thank You to Daemon for his excellent work, making me some great Green tea when I was freezing my ass off, and his understanding manner when I was trying to verbalize my experience with the pain. Thanks to Raven for a timely delivery of some water with my first endorphin rush, and the aura centering rose water mist….also for showing me her belly tattoo. To the doggies for not eating my polar fleece. Thanks to everyone at Urban Primitive.

The precision and still so natural lines and curves on the tattoos are amazing, i cant even express the way i feel about it ( in English or Portuguese ). It was no surprise at all when i realize the tattoos on Nightcrawler on the x-men movie where really done by him, i had recognized the style and thought "Hey, someone has been copying Daemon works !?".... And it also is a very re-energizing space of peace and good intentions. The entire process from beginning to end was wonderful. Someone that is very refreshing to meet in today society. I enjoyed talking with you. Thank you. I came to you for a tattoo and left with so much more and for that I thank the both of you. Cheers .PS. Marcela absolutely loves her elephant. I showed it to her last night when I got home and she started saying "Cela's elephant"!!

Hi Daemon! I've been meaning to drop a line for the longest time. Just wanted to share how extremely happy I am with the tattoo I've received from Daemon this summer. I was browsing the net for some ideas for a tattoo on the lower back and came across Daemon's site and was stunned by his work. This is the most artistic, stylish, modern and very different work that I have ever seen. I had no idea what kind of design I wanted but I knew whom I wanted to do it - Daemon. I flew in Toronto just to have my tattoo done and now I have a beautiful piece of art on my back on which I get tons of compliments. I loved the atmosphere at Urban Primitive House and the two lovely dogs! Thanks Daemon, love your work.

My time spent in the Urban Primitive studio environment is something I will not soon forget. The positive energy emitted from both the studio space and the artists themselves, made for a thoroughly beautiful and comfortable experience. Daemonâs attention to detail and his ability to take my vision, adopt it as his own, and transform it into reality, is something I will always be grateful for. Thank you Urban Primitive!

Hello All, I had to thank you for such an awesome experience getting my first tattoo last Sunday. Until next time…

The spiritual journey that I experience at urban primitive was one that I've never encountered before. The positive energy's that filled the studio put me in a euphoric state of mind. I felt total comfort and was beyond the point of relaxation. I believe a part of this feeling had to do with the middleastern, and South Asian theme of the studio, for it is one that I'm familiar with. Everyone that I came across were all so down to earth and had positive aura's surrounding them. This energy is highly reflected in Daemon's art work. I had total faith and allowed him to use his creativity to the fullest without any restrictions. I believe that the true essence of an artists capabilities is captured by allowing him or her the freedom to create. I thank you greatly and hope to experience this feeling once again!

When I was eighteen, I thought having a tattoo would be cool. Since “cool” was not enough of a reason for me to permanently mark my body, I waited until I was 33 to finally get a tattoo. Some of the intervening years were spent deciding what to get and where to get it, but the bulk of my time was spent choosing an artist. I am so happy I went with Daemon. His work is breathtaking and I ended up with exactly what I wanted, namely a work of art on my body. To me however, the feel of the space and my connection the artist was important also. My experience with Raven and Daemon was fantastic. The studio space was calming and welcoming. I felt at ease the moment I walked in. I found both Daemon and Raven easy to talk with. They were both very friendly and professional. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

The artist as a scientist; the scientist as an artist: I am a scientist, with long-abandoned aspirations to art of some sort. During my explorations of embryology, I attempt to delineate and describe the beauty of life in the most artistic way that scientific reports allow. So I suppose that somehow I am channeling art through science. I find this rather natural, as life, and the human body in particular, is a creation of extraordinary and sometimes occult beauty. Daemon uses the body as a template for his art. More conventional artists are content with a flat canvas, but Daemon’s art expands upon the canvas that is our living breathing skin, and this art walks the street, goes to school, swims in lakes, lives on our planet as an intimate and integral extension of the bodies that are graced by it. This canvas is made of skin, covering bone and muscle and tendons. Daemon’s dedication and passion for his art has extended recently to studies of human anatomy and biomechanical movement….the artist as a scientist, in a sense. By studying how we’re made and how we move, the tattoos that Daemon creates expand and contract organically with the small shrugs or wide gestures of our bodies. I decided to get a tattoo along with my fiancée, as a bonding experience, and to fulfill a long-term desire for body art. Daemon immediately formulated brilliant designs based on what we had vaguely explained as a concept. The result was two beautiful and unique designs that had a seamless integration with movement and structure. Truly a natural part of us that just hadn’t yet landed there. Our body art experience was fantastic, and during the course of several hours, the creative process buoyed along with talk of scientific exploration and creativity, interrupted briefly by pumpkin pie. The fractal nature of embryonic patterning, the organic origin of the inks, the inner conflicts imposed by society’s conventions, and dozens of great stories helped time fly by as the needles fluttered back and forth. In the end, our bodies now have an added feature that is a unique work of art. The art that has been incorporated in our skin now is us, and moves and breathes as part of us. Colours, shapes and textures that didn’t exist now live and travel in the universe that engulfs us, not as static images, but as organismal symbionts breathing through our skin.

Plastic surgeons failed me. Nothing could be done about the severe acne scars mottling my entire back, a parting gift from my teenage years. Skin heals around hair follicles, but they are spread too far apart on the body (as opposed to the face) for treatments like dermabrasion, laser and peels to be effective. I was depressed. For a gay man to keep his shirt on in a dance club screams: I'm hiding something (which I was). And whenever I did meet a new guy, I feared "the moment of truth" ie sex). I'd make sure the lights were off and hope he didn't reject me when the sun came up. I could have gone to therapy. Instead, I got a tattoo. I saw the work Daemon had done on a guy with even worse acne scarring than mine. Daemon's unique style is perfect for camouflaging. I chose the caduceus because it's a symbol of healing (which is what I was after), and it's carried by Hermes, the messenger (I'm a writer). Twenty-two hours, six sessions and many chocolate covered almonds later (you have GOT to keep your sugar levels up!), and a part of my body that I truly hated was transformed into a thing of beauty. At the risk of sounding like a cheesy Jenny Craig commercial, it has changed my life.

Hello Daemon, I'm just a guy from Belgium who just has visited your site on the internet. If I may introduce myself, my name is Hans and I'm 29 years old. I already have a tattoo (a little dragon) but now I'm looking for a shoulder piece. So, I was surfing on the net and bumped into Urban primitive. It is the first time I see that kind of tattoos, and I must say that I'm already a big fan of you and your work. "Keep up the good work !!!". It's VERY beautiful; it's ART with a very big A. Greetings

I just wanted to thank you so much for the incredible bodyart that you did for me last night. I think that the anticipation of the appointment caused my worst fears to come out and then I realized that the experience became somewhat enjoyable. My anxious nature was due to the fact that I am extremely needle phobic but I soon realized (with the combination of EMLA) and the gentleness of your hand that I was able to endure the lengthy process that it took to create a work of art. I am looking forward to my next appointment and I can now go around and alleviate all my friend's fear of the discomfort of bodyart. If I can do it - anyone can! Thanks alot for your patience and beautiful artistry that you have left behind. You would never know that there was ever a dolphin there.

Hey guys, I have been researching tattoos for quite some time and stumbled upon your site. I am impressed (amazed at your attention to detail) with the works from both of you. Thanks in advance and cheers

Hi there, I flip-flopped over the idea of getting a tattoo for years, always knowing that if/when I did get a tattoo, it would be at Urban Primitive. I love the idea of energy wave because I think the idea of the tattoo actually being a part of the body and being beautiful in motion with the body, is incredible. Recently I decided I definitely wanted a tattoo but I wanted to wait until I had accomplished certain goals, and then I would have my tattoo done as a sort of reward. However, after looking at your new site, I now think that getting a tattoo might help me make the transformation I have to in order to achieve what I want.

I have recently moved to Australia but my desire to get a tattoo by Dameon Rowanchilde is as strong as ever. My introduction to Dameon was two very close freinds of mine, John & David Jenks from the UK who have both been tatooed by Dameon. My request for info is simple - is Dameon likely to be visiting Australia at any point in time in the near future, if so I would be very keen to book up some of his time, the type of design I am interested in is the style both John and David have had, i.e. upper arm over the shoulder and into the chest if this makes sense - I am sure I would not be able to get it all done in one session but a start would make me a very happy man. A tall order I know, and I would imagine the answer is for me to visit Canada, but no harm in asking. Any response to this mail would be positive, thanks for reading

Daemon welcomed me into his Home. He prepared and shared fennel tea. We exchanged story in a kingdom of art; animals, plants, books, amulets and lanterns. I was surrounded by the spirit of sound in a sacred realm of all possibility. Being tattooed by Daemon, I moved deeper into my body, my being human. I tell you as woman, Daemon's studio is a safe place. A place of love and of truth. An open gateway. Daemon is human and wolf and great spirit ~ a trusted guide between being ~ a boatman down down down the rivers to one self .

Daemon, I have been scouring the web for tattoo ideas, and have been blown away by your work. It feels to me two levels above anything else I am seeing out there, and my strong preference would be to work with you. I am particularly struck by how beautiful and life affirming your work is, and clean (many tattoos are two busy and too violent for my tastes). I particularly like your use of reddish brown and black, and your use of the skin (negative space?). Anyway, your work speaks to me in a way that I have not otherwise experienced. Thanks so much,

Hello Mister Rowanchilde, How are you and your team keeping? I am sorry for the delay in following up with you, however life has a tendency to sneak up on you and take over your time if you let it. I am writing to let you know how pleased I am with my tattoo. It has healed completely and beautifully. The skin balm that you gave me was a wonderful product that you (or the producer, if other than yourself) should consider mass-marketing. Consider it, it may be a great way to finance the 6 month stints to your private getaway in the Greek Isles.
